    Revolution In Egypt?

The whole world is watching Egypt this week. The Egyptian people are protesting across the country and around the clock against their leader, President Mubarak. Mubarak has held power for 30 years, jails protesters, stifles dissent, and rules through his military. He is the very definition of a dictator. And the people have had enough. The police have fled and the cities of Cairo and Alexandria are in the hands of the protesters.

This all comes on the heels of the uprising in Tunisia. Similar protests resulted in the overthrow of their authoritarian government. The questions now, are where will it stop? Jordan? Syria? Lebanon? Those countries also have leadership that considers the will of their people secondary to maintaining their own power. Groups like Hamas, Hezbollah, and Islamic Revolution are closely watching this situation; this could very well foretell the beginning of their end.

This could fizzle out and end, or we could be watching the beginnings of a complete reshaping of the Mideast.

I posted this in another thread, but it's worth reposting here- it's Al Jazeera's live feed of Egyptian coverage. Just don't give any weight to what their commentators have to say. It's heavily biased.

    Re: Revolution In Egypt?

I think the biggest fear both for the Egyptian people, Israel and the United States is the Islamic Brotherhood taking over by playing on the citizens desire for freedom. Egypt has control of the blockade to Israel and is one of the biggest powers in the region.

Just picture radical Islam in control of the Suez Canal and the ships going to the Easter Mediterranean Coast. If Obama doesn't do anything about this we could be very screwed, and thus far, he's only given a neutral opinion, like every other important issue.

I know this may not be what the Egyptian people are after, and their freedom is just as important, but I see them being used as pawns for multiple peoples motives.

They're armed with sticks and knives, trying to protect their families and homes. But, I suspect they'll face worse opposition than looters. Like government tanks.

My concern is the same as Unbrokens... the Muslim Brotherhood seizing power through this. THEY will be the ones inside the tanks.

and I love how this is now being declared as the fault of the US/Israel. typical.

If we show that we want to help, we're "meddling", if we ignore it, we're "uncaring".

fuck off. take care of your own business
