I know Pinterest will have officially "arrived" once it has a companion site like regrEtsy.
Never heard of Pinterest till now, but I know etsy isn't complete fail from the articles you will constantly read about it how its moving higher on the lists of websites for people to sell things.

All this has happened before and will all happen again.

Pinterest is getting to be a top referral site for purchases - it will only get bigger. It's currently only behind Facebook, Youtube, Twitter, and Yahoo for referral traffic.

but you're right, it's very 'niche'
I never said the site was a niche. I said they'll have a niche. Just as facebook, Twitter, sR etc. And, I'm right. They'll have a particular segment of users. "niche" does not mean large or small.

'fail category'? You're wrong about the fail, you're wrong about who uses it.
Facebook and Twitter 'have a niche'? Then what, pray tell, isn't 'niche' to you? EVERYTHING has a particular segment of users, with maybe the exception of Google's search page.I never said the site was a niche. I said they'll have a niche. Just as facebook, Twitter, sR etc. And, I'm right. They'll have a particular segment of users. "niche" does not mean large it small.
Give Mr. Crane a moment, he would like to recalibrate his words
It's incorrect to believe that "niche" is a small amount it simply means a defineable segment. Look at 4chan /b/ users. That's a niche and it's frakking huge. Maybe check your copy of Websters. I didn't create the definition, I just happened to know it.
edit: and 4chan is fail, too.

as I said, then everything to you is niche, everything has a segment.
the common use of the word, whether or not Webster's says so, is that the segment is specialized and smaller than the Popular segment. As webster's does say, "a specialized market". As opposed to a general market. Specialization, like a surgical specialty, as opposed to general medicine, which serves a larger population.
You can backpedal all you want. Watch the cliff behind you, though.
