Of course they will. Nevermind that they basically do through the retirement contracts.

Joe Ashton, the UAW Vice President overseeing GM operations, dismissed any idea that Detroit workers need to match the VW labor costs.
god forbid you compete, just take more money from the evil company that pays you and drive up costs of your cars so a Chevy POS costs more than a VW.

When you have a labor union goon in management, you get... well... Obama Motors.

So, to recap, the Obama Energy Department is loaning a foreign car company $3.5 billion so that it can pay the Treasury Department $7.6 billion even though American taxpayers spent $13 billion to save an American car company that is currently only worth $5 billion.

UAW sees its future: organize Southern US plants | Reuters
Summary, the UAW is dying and will be of little influence soon if they don't get more members. So they're trying a Hail Mary to organize the German and Asian auto plants in the south.

It's been tried before an utterly failed. I won't say that it couldn't happen, but I see little chance they will succeed now. The companies pay workers about the same compensation as they get in the UAW plants, but adjusted for cost of living they probably make far more. The workers know they have it good, they're not going to risk the uaw coming in and causing the plants to shut down and move farther south.

AND, if the pay is par with a UAW plant, it will be less afterward... after all, there's the inevitable union dues.
