| | | WOW Open Beta I wish the mods had left that open beta thread up about the 11 access codes available. I wanted to send a link to it to the WOW people in hopes of them opening up the Open Beta signups again. This is freakin' stupid. This is the first Open Beta I have seen that's "Limited" Are they also going to limit the number of copies of the game sold on the 23rd? What the hell are they testing? I always thought Open Beta's were the final stress test before bringing the game to market, but they're not stressing anything if they limit the signups to a few thousand. Who's Playing the OB and how many other players do you see online?
Stupid. |

| | | No they're not going to limit the number of copies sold, they've made enough for WoW to be the best selling MMO of all time (which they fully anticipate to happen) and they're ready to make more. This Open Beta is the final stress test for the servers so they opened it up to several hundred thousand people. I'd hardly call that limited, but because this game is so hugely popular and hyped that probably over a million people tried to get in. WoW = WOW!

| Try 500,000. That's just about exactly what I posted (I heard a rumor that it would be limited to 300-400,000 additional after stress test), when I warned everyone. http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/ Quote:
500,000+ World of Warcraft Open Beta Test Signups!
This past Monday we launched the World of Warcraft open beta test, and by the following day, we had already reached a total of more than 500,000 signups! To everyone who signed up, we'd like to say thanks again for helping us make this the most extensive beta test ever for a Blizzard game. We take this as a strong indication that the gaming community is as excited about World of Warcraft's upcoming release as we are.
As for the status of the open beta test, more than 40 servers are currently active, and testing is running smoothly, with additional players completing their client installation and joining by the hour. Each server hosts thousands of concurrent users, most of whom are seeing Azeroth through the eyes of the Horde or the Alliance for the first time. We continue to review every suggestion submitted, so please keep them coming in!
| That is not a cheap, small open beta. And trust me the servers are being stressed...at least they're lagging. |

| | | I didn't say it was a cheap, small open beta. I just said the truth, which is that it's a limited open beta. If they sell 2.5 mil copies of wow the first day (like Halo 2 sold, but i know, not likely) They will not have stressed the servers to 1/4 the actual load. That sounds like a limited beta to me. If they get a few million, it's not a test when they only have a few hundred thousand. The fact is, there are probably 50,000 accounts that aren't being used because people can't get the client or are trying to sell them like the a$$ i was referring to in my original post. I just think they should open up for more accounts. Unlimited numbers if need be. The reason i wanted to know how many people ob players were seeing, was because I suspected, and continue to suspect, that the actual numbers of participants is far lower than the signup total. If that's true, It's really unfortunate. I'm not blaming blizzard, just venting my frustration at people like the afformentioned a$$ with the "Free" accounts for sale.
And I was being sarcastic when i asked if they were going to limit the number of copies for sale. |

| | they don't need to test the servers with 3 million people, the only difference between having 500,000 people and 3mil is there will be 6X more servers. It's statistics. They have WAAAAY more people than necessary for an accurate test of the servers, even if only half of the sign-ups are playing. Blizzard knows exactly what they're doing.
Anyway, I'm a lvl 5 orc warlock on Test 36 (along with mayaman) named Narcinok I think if anyone wants to join us
