Lost Odyssey

I'm kind of surprised no one has posted about this game yet.

This game is one of the few RPGs for the Xbox 360. It comes out on February 12 in the U.S.

A couple things to point out here is that the developing studio is Mistwalker. This studio also did Blue Dragon for the Xbox 360. Blue Dragon wasn't the best of RPGs out of all the systems, but I think it held the top spot for the Xbox 360. This new game is going to blow it away. One of the most awesome aspects about it is that they have both the music composer and the producer of the Final Fantasy series working on this game. Nobuo Uematsu is extremely successful and he doesn't just put his name on anything. To have him participate with this game means it has to be good.

Anyway, this game is 4 DVDs and it clocks in at about 30gb large.

This game looks and plays a lot like the Final Fantasy series. If you're any kind of FF fan, this game is a must.

There's been some good RPG's lately, Mass Effect comes to mind, hopefully the genre takes off for consoles. If the PS3/X360 can find their version of WoW, man, lights out

Yeah, Mass Effect is awesome, but it's not like a traditional kick-ass JRPG.

Just wait for FF13 on PS3. That game alone makes me want to buy a PS3, just for it, I know I'm off topic just saying, that should be an amazing rpg

P.S. The characters in Lost Odyssey remind me a lot of the Phantasy Star series.

It's pretty sweet. I managed to pick up an import from Japan at a local store.

It's awesome so far. The character development is solid straight from the start. It has some issues where the gameplay can lag or get a little slow, but a lot of 360 games do that anyway. It's not a show-stopper by any means. The graphics are great. The blur effect is a little awkward but you don't really notice it unless you're specifically staring at it. Otherwise it's pretty subtle.

The game basically feels like they took a bunch of different Final Fantasy games and combined their features into one. It's too early to really pin a score on it. It's 4 discs and I'm only a few hours into the first disc. So far, though, it's getting a 9/10 for me. The only thing stopping it from a 10/10 is the slow-downs.

nice! i expect slow downs on the 360 though, so it doesnt really bother me unless it is a huge issue

You'll notice slowdowns in just about every in-game cutscene. The pre-rendered cutscenes are flawless. It's just that during most in-game cutscenes, the framerate can drop to pretty low numbers. While you're actually playing the game (walking around, fighting, etc.), you won't be affected by any of the slow downs. It's pretty much only the cutscenes. So it's by no means a show stopper. The U.S. release has a date much further than the Japanese date, even though the Japanese release comes with full English dialogs and speech. Hopefully this means that they're putting some extra time into fixing the issues for the U.S. release. Either way, the game is just awesome. This is a traditional JRPG at its best. I actually find it more enjoyable than Mass Effect.
